The A.B. Paterson Auditorium is our main theatre space, and is host to a wide range of performances from theatre to dance and live music. This theatre is one of the most modern theatres in the country and this is reflected not only in the equipment and resources available for use but also in the style of the auditorium where every seat is comfortable with plenty of leg room and a perfect unrestricted view of the stage. The main auditorium is the perfect place to host your conference or to perform. Utilising the most modern technology and style, you won’t be disappointed.

The A.B. Paterson Auditorium has permanent raked seating for 216, along with a fully equipped stage measuring 9.15m by 8.50m with counterweight and hemp flying facilities. There is a separate control room for lighting and sound, along with the main sound position at the rear of the auditorium. The theatre has a comprehensive lighting and audio equipment stock available for use; please see our technical specification below for more information. In addition, the in-house moving lights and radio microphones are available at an additional cost. We also have an 8m by 6m back-projection screen (which also doubles as a cyclorama) permanently rigged at the rear of the stage complete with a 6500 lumen projector and variety of projection sources.

There are fire exits on either side of the main auditorium between the edge of the forestage and the auditorium stairway. Access to these doors must be kept clear at all times, as they are the main route of escape in an emergency for both performers and audience. Please consult the Operations or Technical Managers if you have any doubts about your set restricting exit from the stage or auditorium. Access for unloading vehicles into the A.B. Paterson Auditorium is via the rear of the stage directly from Abbey Street.

The A.B. Paterson Auditorium has access to 3 dressing rooms, all with showers, which can accommodate 26 people comfortably. There are laundry and tumble drying facilities available and a fully equipped green room with wireless internet access.
