Inside Out Festival: Street Theatre and Outdoor Performing Arts Festival
The Inside Out Festival is an annual event that takes place in the streets
of St Andrews and is created by the Byre Theatre. The first festival was in 2008 and has appeared every summer since, generally during the
last weekend in July over three days.
The concept behind the festival is:
- To bring the arts out of the theatre and to the public
- Develop audiences
- Generate the local economy
The festival is designed to bring the arts out to the people, who may not have visited a theatre to
see the performances on offer, to educate and inspire.
Companies involved include local groups, national &
international companies. Including dancers, actors, musicians, BMX stunt riders, national plays, drummers, comedians, character actors
including Elvis, the market of optimism where all your dreams come true!
The final of Fife’s Got Talent also takes
place at the Inside Out Festival.
In 2010 the festival ventured beyond St Andrews and performed at Leven Promenade for 1
day before returning to St Andrews for 3 further days.
In 2008 10,000 people attended the festival, by 2010 this had grown
to 17,000. The impact upon the local economy is significant with an independent research organisation estimating the 2008 festival brought in
£2.40 for every £ spent on the festival to the local economy.
It’s fun, it’s amazing and
it’s a great chance to see some of the best entertainment, and it’s free!
